We are delighted to introduce Tara... in training for a career as a guide dog! She can be found close to our receptionist Linda. We think Tara can be the MMC mascot, at least for the time being. Tara is full of unconditional love that she is willing to bestow on anyone in need, so we are hoping for some positive health outcomes...
We are very pleased to welcome a GP registrar back into our practice. We have been a teaching practice for the College of GPs since 1981, and we are looking to expand our commitment to teaching of nurses and doctors as space allows. The future of our health system is dependent on nurturing a skilled, well-trained workforce committed to primary health care. Dr Anita Naik completed her basic medical training in India. She moved to New Zealand with her family in 2009 and requalified to work as a doctor here. Since then, she has worked in various hospitals in Waitemata, Auckland, Lakes and Waikato DHBs. After having gained experience as a Registrar in Psychiatry in Waitemata and Auckland for two years she chose to begin her training in General Practice in Dec 2014. She is currently a GP Registrar at Mairangi Medical Centre having completed her first six months at ‘Health New Lynn General Practice’.
Apologies to all our patients for a very frustrating computer crash which has left us without online (and offline!) appointments, and everything else for that matter....our computer support company has been working on this since Sunday night and we hope to get back online soon....if possible please defer non urgent matters and enquiries until Tuesday 30th, or later in the week.
UPDATE 4.30pm Monday 29th... computer is back up and running but online appointments won't be available until we have done further troubleshooting. Sorry, back to the phone for appointments in the meantime!! We will reactivate online appointments as soon as our IT people have checked over all systems to ensure that we don't have a repeat performance of the database issue. UPDATE Thursday 2nd July..online appointments and repeat prescriptions are operational again.
From 1st July 2015 there will be no charge for children under the age of 13! We have had reduced fees in this age group for the last year so we are delighted to make this offer of free care available. Children's health is one of our top priorities, so this new government initiative fits in perfectly with that. The free consultation policy applies to enrolled patients aged under 13 for normal consultations.
Influenza vaccination is free to those at greatest risk of serious complications, including those over the age of 65, pregnant women, people with on-going health conditions such as asthma, and children under five years who have been hospitalised for a respiratory illness. Pregnant women can have the shot any time after the first trimester (and around 28 weeks you should also have Boostrix to protect your baby from whooping cough). All others should consider a flu vaccine, as over 1 million New Zealanders do every year. This year's vaccine contains the H3N2 strain which caused a lot of trouble in the northern hemisphere during their winter.
We have reduced the cost of the shingles vaccine to $220 - this has been a popular option for our older patients, since it reduces the risk of shingles by about 50%, and the risk of neuralgia by about 67%. Some people are combining the shingles vaccine with their flu shot.
Drs Philippa Ho and Sarah Fendall are currently engaged in important alternative duties (ie motherhood) and will not be available for their patients for some months. We are fortunate to have excellent alternative GPs available to see Philippa and Sarah's patients, including our new doctor Faye Welsh, and Anna Herriott, back at work after the birth of her second child.
Welcome to our new website. Our old website was lovingly hand-coded by our very own Dr Glenda Lowe over many years, and at least some of us are rather sad to see its demise, with its quirky retro look.... however we hope that the new site will be easy to use, and keep you up to date with all the happenings at MMC.
We are delighted to introduce Dr Faye Welsh, an experienced GP who will help fill the gaps left by Philippa Ho and Sarah Fendall (both of whom are currently otherwise occupied by motherhood). Faye grew up in Argentina but trained and qualified as a GP in the UK, where she worked in the northeast of England until her family moved to Auckland in 2013. She enjoys paediatrics and minor surgery, and she has a qualification in substance misuse. When she is not doctoring or dealing with her 2 young children she likes to keep fit, read, sew, and go to church. Faye is qualified with both the UK and NZ Colleges of General Practice.
You can now request repeat prescriptions online via the ConnectMed service. If you haven't already registered for ConnectMed, you will need a mobile number which matches the record we hold in the practice register. Remember that all conditions requiring long term medication will need to be reviewed regularly, depending on the nature of the condition being treated. Log in to your account on ConnectMed and you will see a tab for prescriptions.
