In case you hadn't realised it, there is lot of medical information out there in the Internet... but how do you know what the real stuff is? The following is a list of links to a small number of carefully selected websites containing useful medical information that we think you can take seriously:
Dermatology
The dermnet website is NZ based and has a huge library of information about all sorts of skin conditions. We find this very useful in practice and recommend it for anyone wanting more information about skin problems.
Health and Disability Commissioner
Information about your rights as a health care user is available from the website of the H&D Commissioner
Health Navigator
This website has a large library of good quality information pages about health conditions (from a NZ perspective) with external links, and lots of advice about how to manage health conditions yourself
Immunisation Advisory Centre
IMAC has comprehensive information about immunisation from a NZ perspective. For a detailed international perspective, we suggest
Immunization Action Coalition, The Chain of Protection, The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia
also our own thoughts on vaccine hesitancy (or why some parents are uncertain about vaccines)
Dr Ari Brown's great summary of vaccine questions is an excellent starting point.
Medsafe - Patient Information on Medicines
The Ministry of Health maintains this database of standardised information sheets about medications registered in New Zealand.
Ministry of Health NZ
The Ministry of Health website maintains a reasonable database of information about health issues of current concern.
Pharmac Schedule
None of us can keep up to date with the ever-changing schedule of drugs which the government's drug-buying agency Pharmac pays for. This is the place to find out which drugs are subsidised by Pharmac and what the alternatives are.
Travel Information - Centers for Disease Control
This USA based site offers excellent advice about recommendations for travel to different parts of the world. You can use this to base your discussions with your doctor about your vaccination requirements.
