Prescriptions
Manage My Health is the preferred method to use when requesting repeat medications. E-mailed requests are not accepted.
Prescriptions which need to be renewed can sometimes be issued without the need for an appointment, but we need to follow careful guidelines, for safety and legal reasons. All conditions which require long-term medication require regular reviews to make sure the treatment remains appropriate and safe. The frequency of the review depends on the nature and severity of the condition being treated.
For ongoing or repeat medications, we may require a blood pressure check where appropriate. If you have not been reviewed for some time, you may be asked to attend a consultation before a prescription is issued.
Our doctors and nurses are required to follow clear clinical protocols to ensure the safe and responsible prescribing of medicines. If a prescription request is declined, you will be informed and advised to book an appointment with your doctor.
Manage My Health is the preferred method to use when requesting a repeat of your medication. All repeat prescriptions need to be checked against the patient notes by the doctor signing the prescription. This is a process which can't be rushed, or mistakes can be made. For this reason, please allow 48 hours for your prescription to be processed and reviewed. You will receive a text message when your prescription has been e-mailed to your pharmacy.

💊 Changes to Prescription Lengths in 2026
From early 2026, the maximum duration for many prescriptions in New Zealand will increase from 3 months to up to 12 months,
where clinically appropriate.
Requests for 12 month prescriptions will require an in-person review with your GP.
Patients who are issued a 12-month prescription will be encouraged to book a double appointment (30 minutes) for their Annual review.
This allows the GP adequate time to review medications and carry out a full clinical assessment.
A standard appointment may not always allow enough time to discuss several concerns. We encourage patients to raise any health issues as they arise, rather than waiting until their Annual review, as this helps us assess concerns early and provide timely care.
